Hustle and Flow: The Drunk Yogi’s Guide to Working Hard While Manifesting Opportunity
by Julie Weinstock
Tenacious. Driven. Unrelenting.
Sound familiar? Yet despite all these incredible qualities of yours, you're struggling to get everything done. Whenever you complete your to-do list, there's always something more to add. Because YOU, you're always working to do better and despite how hard you work...you never settle at "good enough."
Well, what I'm about to say may catch you off guard: just because you feel the plunging weight of all the work you do doesn't mean you're failing. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. In fact, this is me telling you that you should take a second right now to give yourself serious credit for grabbing life by the horns. (Seriously. Right now. I'm waiting!)
More than that, you should know there's a term for us relentless go-getters. Yes, a real term that says "hey, you want to do 8 trillion things in your life and you don't settle, ever." You, my friend, are what they call a “multipotentialite.” Before you jump on me saying I made this word up (I wish I came up with such a cool concept), I'm actually referencing one of my favorite TED Talks. One that made me say “Oh, there are others like me out there!”
According to Emilie Wapnick, not everyone in the world is wired to be a specialist. Some of us find ourselves wanting to explore an infinite amount of fields/interests. (Because let’s be real, one area of expertise just doesn't cut it for us.) And while some might argue this stretching we do to conquer so many things is a weakness, it is also our greatest strength. We push limits and we don’t take “no” for an answer. Our curiosity for the world never runs out.
I share this with you not only for you to have that “Ah-ha!” moment as many of you might. I share this with you because once you cast this multipotentiality as your strength, it can even become your superpower. (You just need to learn how to use it)
Being that we’re so goal-oriented, it’s easy to get overwhelmed or to feel stuck. We want to do all the things and we want to do them all the time! So let me give you the best advice I recently received: decide what all your goals have in common. Once you can decide that, you have your direction. (Yes, Wonder Woman/Superman, grab your cape)
From there, break your goals down. I know it’s tempting to try to do all 8 trillion things at once but start with one. (Fine. Maybe two if you’re feeling a little spicy today) Write it down (in detail) and if you feel comfortable enough, maybe even share it with a few friends or family. Now you have to hold yourself accountable.
Last but not least, go get it! I know, easier said than done BUT if I’ve learned anything it’s this: we’re often the ones holding ourselves back. Our negative self-talk, self-doubt, fear of the “what-ifs”...remember you are an official superhero now. You have both the responsibility and the potential to make this world the best it can be. (And yes, this includes mandated rest periods too...even us superheroes need our sleep)
At the beginning of 2019, with the help of some wonderful yogis, I decided that this year would be the year of manifesting. So right now, I’m sending all those manifest vibes your way. May this year be your most prosperous yet! (Cape or no cape)
